One of the new models, growing GPS device manufacturer Garmin, has recently launched is the Garmin nuvi 205. Basically Garmin has replaced its earlier version – Garmin nuvi 200, with the new Garmin nuvi 205 which includes many improved features like the all new map screen enhancement, better GPS receiver, quicker map rendering, supports traffic receivers, and the HotFix GPS technology. Another feature which is said to be the best of all is that the device can show an upcoming turn in the map.

Technical specifications:

  • The physical size of the device is measured at 3.8″ W x 2.8″ H x .8″ D (9.7 x 7.1 x 2 cm)
  • The standard weight of Gramin nuvi 205 is 175 g or 6.17 oz.
  • Garmin nuvi 205 has a vibrant wide screen of 3.5 inches (measured diagonally). The pixel configuration of the device is 320 x 240 and QVGA TFT screen. The screen has a mild white backlight and an elegant touch screen
  • The device has been tested to work in the most extreme climate conditions. Garmin assures that the device can perform well between 32 to 113 Fahrenheit or 0 to 45 degree Celsius
  • The device has internal memory. The storage capacity can be increased with the help of an external microSD memory card
  • The device has a USB port, of which can be synchronized with your personal computer for data exchange
  • It takes around four hours for the Garmin nuvi 205 to charge from 0% to 100%
  • Garmin nuvi 205 needs a DC vehicle power supply. The device can also be charged with a AC power supply via optional adapter
  • Power consumption – Garmin nuvi 205 utilizes around five watts (maximum)
  • Garmin nuvi 205 comes with a lithium-ion re-chargeable battery. However the battery is not replaceable
  • One of the best features – High Speed GPS receiver is what Garmin boosts of. Garmin nuvi 205 has a high speed Sensitive GPS receiver with the latest HotFix technology
  • Garmin nuvi 205 comes with pre installed maps of 48 US States (City Navigator North America NT and also City navigator North America NT 3D), or only a European state

At present, the Garmin nuvi 205 is typically priced at around $150.

    The software is fairly easy to use and the interface with the unit is good. I would like to see a little more functionality with the software.

    My Garmin nuvi 205 is giving message “do detailed maps for routing” when starting up. What can I do to fix this? It was working fine yesterday.
