Garmin Nuvi’s Best GPS Navigator So Far

The 3490 is the most expensive device that you can buy from Garmin Nuvi’s range of GPS navigators. But the biggest question here is, is it worth the money? It definitely is. The new navigator has a more powerful processor, a capacitive touch screen with improved screen response, more detailed maps and in-depth traffic updates. Although it seems a bit pricey and there are a few issues with the Bluetooth sync feature, this is one of the better GPS navigators available in the market today.

Build Quality

Top marks to Garmin Nuvi for making this device look sleek and elegant. Although there is nothing too flashy about it, you will be proud to put the Garmin Nuvi 3490 on your dashboard. It is 2.9 inches in length and has a width of 4.8 inches. It is just 0.35 inches thick, which is impressive indeed. When you hold the device in your hands, you can actually feel that the it is made of high quality plastic and fiber, in spite of weighing just 4 ounces. The only hardware key is the power/screen lock button. All the other interactions are through the touch screen only.

Boasts a Host of New Features

One of the new features of the 3490 is its phone sync, which uses Bluetooth technology to sync with your phone. You can answer and make calls without having to reach for your mobile device. When you look at the home screen, there are a few icons that allow you to access the different features of the 3490. They include the eco-route option that generates the best possible route, the voice command interface, calculator, unit convertor and even an alarm clock. You can also store audio books on the micro SD card and listen to it using the audio player.

The new navigation software is called  the Guidance 3.0 interface by Garmin. This is much more interactive and faster than  the earlier Garmin navigational software. With the easy-to-use voice navigation feature, you don’t have to take your hands off the steering wheel to operate it. Just speak out your destination and the 3490 will chalk out a route. If there is any ambiguity in the destination, the device will give you a list of all the places based on the keyword you use, and you can then make your choice. This device is more responsive than the other Garmin GPS navigators and you won’t have to worry about lags in response or any other processing delays either.
