Garmin Oregon 550

Oregon 550 is the latest GPS receiver launched by Garmin. The gadget is a very useful tool for anyone who spends most of the time outside and in the outdoor activities. Among other functions, the 3.2 megapixel camera, the geo tagging for photos and the three axis compass are the most prominent ones. The device is also designed in a way which will give the user a clear and improved touchscreen. And on top of all that, it is waterproof! This means that you no longer need to worry about keeping it dry. But let us focus on the three features that we have discussed before.

Garmin Oregon 550

Camera

The camera is 3.2 megapixels and captures images much better than expected of such a device. The camera has an option where you can set it to either 1 megapixel, 2, or 3.2 Megapixel, which will give you different sizes of the image captured. The camera also has a zoom in option which works well.

Geocoding

This is perhaps one of the most exciting features of the Garmin Oregon 550. The device will save the location of the places where you took the pictures. This enables the users to revisit a memorable place whenever they wish to. You can also upload the pictures online, though the device seems to favour Picasa because it prompts you there when you sign in.

Compass

The compass of the Oregon is different and has no other match. It gives you a clear and accurate reading no matter how you hold the device. This means that you don’t necessarily have to hold the device straight to get precise directions to the place you want to go to. The device has a simple 3-step calibration process which will get you prepared to use the compass accurately.
