Update: Magellan / MiTAC Deal

More details are gradually starting to be released concerning the Magellan/ MiTAC deal, shedding a bit more light on exactly what this might mean for the future of the Magellan brand and product lines.

DigiTimes reports that:

“Mitac will operate business for each of its three own brands, Mio, Navman (acquired in March 2007) and Magellan, independently, the company pointed out.”

MiTAC also said that the deal includes Magellan’s “brand, trademark, software, intellectual properties, operating staff, client base and marketing network.”

From this statement, it seems we can assume that the Magellan unit will continue to operate independently, at least for the short term, and the product lines will not immediately merge, supposing that all current products remain in production.
